Significant proportion of the District is covered by electricity supply but is expensive and
unaffordable for rural communities in the District. Most communities also do not have
access to clean and reliable water supply. They continue to use rivers and streams for their
daily water needs. This poses greater risks to water-borne related diseases to the people
in the communities and places further strain on already inadequately resourced medical
facilities.

Significant parts of the District are currently covered by both Digicel and Bmobile
telecommunication networks. Affordability is, nevertheless limited due to high costs. The
internet, radio and television coverage in the rural LLGs are still inadequate.

To enhance accessibility to critical utilities there is need to concentrate on the following
mitigating strategies or interventions in line with the MTDP III sector priorities:
• Roll-out the rural electrification throughout the District to areas that are not connected;
• Undertake water supplies and sanitation services through the Government’s water &
sanitation roll-out program; and
• Strengthen and develop the ICT infrastructure to make accessibility easier and
affordable.
