Currently the Kerowagi District continues to face law and order issues and challenges. This
is hampered by lack of manpower, poor infrastructure, poor housing and lack of logistical
support. Such issues and challenges make law enforcement difficult and ineffective in the
communities in the District.

Table 3.3 below summarizes the current key law and justice indicators of the District by
LLG. The only Kerowagi Police Station has 64 police personnel serving around 114,510
people of the District. There is also lack of court facilities coupled with insufficient court
officials in the LLGs and wards. This makes effective delivery of law and justice services
difficult.

The District should refocus on addressing the capacity issues affecting the delivery of law
and justice services with the following mitigating strategies or interventions that is aligned
to the MTDP III sector goals:
Increase police numbers whilst replacing the aging personnel. This would include
strengthening the auxiliary and reservist police;
• Provide adequate logistical support to police;
• Build mediation facilities in each LLG;
• Establish community peace and good order committees for mediation in the
communities; and
• Strengthen the capacity, effectiveness and facilities of the police outposts and village
courts in the 4 LLGs.
