The KRA # 3 objective is basically to develop and promote small to medium enterprises. It
supports the KRA # 2 by specifically increasing the number of ‘people participation’ in the
District by engaging people economically from both within and outside of the District and
further increase the volume and quality of outputs as also specified under KRA 1 of MTDP
III.
It will moreover, support and sustain many people hence provide the environment for the
CHEH sustainability and growth as well as the basis for its establishment.
The KDDA will create enabling environment and provide appropriate support in such areas
as:
- Extension services and piloting projects;
- Nurseries and rehabilitation programs;
- Establishing and coordinating smallholder cooperatives and businesses in cash
cropping, agriculture, poultry, animal husbandry, carpentry, mechanical work, sawing
and cooking, crafts marketing, and food and second hand retailing among others; - Establishing incubation centres or small industries centres; and
- Establish micro financing facilities in order for households in the rural communities to
access affordable financial products and services that will facilitate as a source of seed
capital for SMEs.
The investment plan for the SME growth funded through the DSIP is estimated at K3,
232,000.00.
