The objective of the KRA # 4 is to promote our culture through sustainable eco-tourism
activities. Our cultures and our environment need to be preserved and conserved respectively
through proper coordination between the KDDA, the Conservation and Environment
Protection Authority (CEPA) and the Tourism Promotion Authority. This is further outlined
under KRAs 3 and 7 of the MTDP III.

There are both bilateral and multilateral DPs that requires the District to partner and
engage with them in an effective way. The support (both financial and technical) needs to be
placed where it will have greater impact that will have positive outcome on the lives of the
people in the rural wards and communities.

The Churches have partnered with the Government and have provided significantly in
the development of the District in many areas that the Government has not adequately
provided to many of the people in the isolated communities. For many years the Churches,
particularly the main stream churches such as the Catholic Church have partnered very
well for many decades and have played a significant role in education, health, vocational
training and other life skills training.

The Civil Society Organizations consist of women, youth, church groups and conservation
groups among others. They form a strong and very cohesive group that provide avenues to
improve their livelihoods. Communication within the various groups are very effective, hence
the provision of information and the delivery of basic services are not only effective but at
lower costs. They deliver on trust and fairness. It is critical that the development assistance
aspirations of the CSOs and the Churches are properly strategized and coordinated for
maximum impact. The KDDA will need to play the intermediary role. It is estimated to cost
about one Million Kina (K1,000,000.00).
